Driving around in the winter can be unpleasant for many reasons. The roads are slick, other drivers are never as careful and attentive as they should be, and the salt and sand on the road turn your car into a mess. While there’s not much we can do about the first two problems, we can help you out with that last one. At Erick’s Custom Exhaust & Auto Repair, auto detailing is one of our flagship services that can help protect your car this winter.
Auto detailing makes your car look great inside and out, but is it worth the expense in the winter? We think so. Here’s why you shouldn’t wait until spring.
Prevent rust and corrosion.
In New Hampshire, we put a lot of salt and sand on the roads in the winter. While that’s great for melting ice and improving traction on the road, it’s not the best for your car, especially the undercarriage. Not only does salt from the road leave unattractive white marks on the outside of the car, but it can also corrode the metal. Road salt is corrosive, and if you let it sit on the outside of your car, it can start to eat away at the surface. Detailing washes the salt and sand off your car and leaves a protective coating to repel the grime.
Keep the interior clean.
The outside of your car isn’t the only area that’s affected by salt and sand. Every time you get into your car, you are bringing sand and salty water with you on your shoes. You can wait until springtime to clean out the interior. But you’re going to have a lot of sand and salt stains to take care of. Having your car detailed at least once this winter will make it much easier to keep the interior clean.
Improve safety and visibility.
Salty and sandy water splashes up onto your windows and windshields as you drive, impairing your visibility. Wiper blades don’t reach to the corners of your windshield, especially in the back, so a layer of salt and sand can make your blind spots much bigger than they need to be. Thoroughly cleaning your windshield not only looks better, it’s safer, too.

Auto detailing isn’t just for people who are really into their cars. Having your car detailed a few times a year makes it safer for you and other drivers and extends the life of the components that are exposed to the elements.
